Can you get fiber without a CPF?
Plan on needing one, since TIM's contract ties each connection to a CPF or CNPJ. Foreigners can get a CPF free from Receita Federal online, or start the form from abroad and finish at a Brazilian consulate. Partner offices charge R$7. Until your line is in, furnished rentals from Housi include internet, and Yuca bills Wi-Fi with the rent. The moving checklist covers the other admin steps.37 38 39 40
eSIM in Brazil or a local SIM
Without a CPF, buy a physical prepaid chip. TIM's online eSIM swap is free on every individual plan, but the portal asks for a CPF.45
TIM sells its TIM Pré XIP chip in its stores and at newsstands, pharmacies and supermarkets. Visitors register with a passport number and the address where they are staying. Vivo's prepaid activation asks for a selfie and photos of both sides of an ID. Federal Law 10.703 of 2003 requires prepaid operators to register each user's name, address and ID or CPF number.41 43 44 46
- Vivo Pré. A R$30 (US$6) top-up gives 25 GB for 30 days.
- TIM Pré XIP Plus. R$30 bought online gives 16 GB for 30 days, 4 GB of it for social apps.

Power, voltage and plugs
São Paulo's standard supply is 127 volts at 60 Hz. Enel, the city's distributor, delivers 127 V between phase and neutral and 220 V between phases, so many homes have outlets of both voltages. Some urban areas use a 120/240 V system instead, according to Enel's March 2025 technical specification.47
Since January 1, 2010, metal-cased appliances sold in Brazil must have an earth conductor and a plug built to Brazilian standards. Bring adapters for your chargers, and check each outlet's voltage before plugging in anything that isn't dual-voltage.48
Working hours overlap with your team
São Paulo stays on UTC-3 all year. Brazil ended daylight saving time in April 2019, so the gap changes only when your team's clocks do.
