Brasília relocation guide

Getting around Brasília

A fare tells you the price, not the complete journey.

The short answer

Brasília's ordinary bus fares use three published bands, while the metro has a single published passenger fare. The BRB Mobilidade card can link qualifying trips, and a separate DF program provides free travel on Sundays and listed holidays. Those rules do not extend the train timetable. Test the journey from the actual home, with particular attention to the final walk and the return after school or work.

  • The consolidated decree lists bus bands of US$0.54 (BRL 2.70), US$0.76 (BRL 3.80) and US$1.10 (BRL 5.50).
  • BRB publishes up to three boardings within three hours, subject to direction and transfer rules.
  • Sunday free travel does not mean the metro runs around the clock.

Check the ordinary Mobilidade card rules

BRB says the first ordinary card is free and issued immediately in person. Its online route uses CPF and email registration followed by pickup. The published document list includes photo identification and CPF. Ask which foreign identification the counter accepts before going.4

Its ordinary integration rule allows two transfers, making three boardings, within three hours. Travel must continue in the same direction, without a return leg, with at least one minute between boardings. The published maximum integrated fare is US$1.10 (BRL 5.50). A separate older Vale Transporte notice should not be substituted for this card's rules.1,4

Keep the metro timetable separate

Metrô DF lists contactless credit or debit payment and BRB cards beside the fare. Its central contact is +55 61 3353 7373. Check a special event or holiday announcement before planning the last trip.2

Use the free-day program on its own terms

DF Decree 46924/2025 covers the DF collective system and complementary rural service on Sundays and its listed holidays. It also sets a Carnaval period. An optional government office closure is not automatically a free-travel holiday. Follow BRB validation and the operator's boarding instructions.3

The Sunday program's midnight-to-midnight window does not create 24-hour metro service. A Carnaval metro extension likewise depends on the operator's announcement. Keep a return plan that fits the actual timetable.2,3

Compare home locations with the school address or the desk address, then read the route checks.

No. The operator publishes Sunday hours of 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The free program's day window is separate from those hours. Check special announcements for changes.

Can I use a landlord's journey estimate?

Use it as a starting point, then test the actual trip yourself. Include the entrance, stop, transfer, final walk and return time. These sources do not establish an airport fare, pet policy or complete accessible journey.
