The short answer

Buenos Aires works well for remote workers paid from abroad who want substantial overlap with US teams. Its digital nomad residence is transitory, lasts up to 180 days, and can renew once for an equal term. It applies to visa-exempt nationalities working for overseas clients. Personal advertises 300 Mbps fiber from US$18 (ARS 27,000) for six months, subject to address availability. Check your legal route and tax position separately.

  • The nomad route offers up to 180 days, with one equal-term renewal.
  • Renewal requires presence in Argentina for at least half the original authorization.
  • Both teams working 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. share 7 to 8 hours with New York and 5 to 6 with London.
  • The single middle-area core budget is US$885 to US$1,373 (ARS 1,341,000 to ARS 2,081,000), with insurance and tax extra.

Is Buenos Aires good for remote work?

Start with Argentina visas if your passport or activity differs from the nomad category. Use coworking and internet to check the connection and workspace. Compare neighborhoods around your everyday needs. A familiar visitor area is useful only if the home lets you work reliably.

What the digital nomad residence allows

DNM 758/2022 Article 1 covers remote services for people or entities domiciled overseas. It restricts the route to nationalities exempt from the tourist visa. It does not authorize an Argentine client base. The current service page does not state a fixed dollar income threshold, so this guide does not import one from another country.9,10

A full 180-day grant plus an approved equal extension totals 360 days. Neither length nor renewal is guaranteed. Keep entry and exit records because the presence condition is part of the extension. The current CABA process directs applicants to contact DNM through the service page before the presencial step.9,10

If you intend salaried local employment, read jobs. If you qualify by a regional nationality, the separate MERCOSUR residence route may better match a longer move. The route follows your passport and activity, not the neighborhood you choose.11,12

Buenos Aires uses UTC minus three throughout the checked 2026 dates. Your team's daylight saving change can still move every recurring call. Put named time zones in calendar invites. Avoid promising a fixed gap to London or New York for the whole year.14

The 300 Mbps offer is US$18 (ARS 27,000) per month for six months, then US$61 (ARS 91,860) at list price. The 600 Mbps offer is US$20 (ARS 31,000) introductory and US$71 (ARS 107,700) list. These prices were checked October 9, 2026. We did not collect an independent city median speed.1,6

  1. Confirm address coverage

Give the provider the exact building and unit before booking a long stay.

  2. Test work needs

Test upload, video calls and latency to the systems you use. A plan ceiling alone cannot establish reliability.

  3. Keep an independent backup

Price a cell data or nearby workspace backup and verify that your device can use it.

  4. Check the desk and noise

Inspect power outlets, seating, light and street noise during your working hours.

Personal prepaid directs foreign-document holders to a branch for activation. Its advertised US$5.94 (ARS 9,000) recharge gives 30-day benefits including 2 GB. That is a phone starting point, not a verified heavy-use laptop backup.1,7

Argentina's income tax law treats immigration and tax as separate questions. Article 1 taxes residents on worldwide income. Current Article 116(b) covers foreign permanent residents and twelve months with authorized temporary stays. It also allows a nonhabitual-stay exception subject to proof. A transitory nomad permit does not establish the answer by itself. Ask an Argentine accountant to check source, status, treaty and home-country obligations.13

Use US$1,500 for a constrained single scenario and US$2,500 for a couple scenario. Read rent before choosing a revision clause. Add healthcare and professional tax advice to the model instead of treating either as free.

Dollar equivalents use ARS 1,515.50 per US dollar from the BCRA on October 8, 2026. Your payment provider can use another rate.1

Questions people ask

Does Buenos Aires suit a digital nomad on US hours?

New York shares 7 to 8 hours when both sides work 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Los Angeles shares 4 to 5. The city fits US daytime collaboration, provided your actual apartment connection supports the work.

Is Argentina's nomad status temporary or transitory?

It is transitory under Ley 25.871 Article 24(h) and DNM 758/2022. The initial grant is up to 180 days. It is distinct from the temporary MERCOSUR, worker, rentista and pensionado categories.

Is there a verified minimum dollar income for the nomad permit?

No fixed dollar minimum appears in the checked DNM 758/2022 text or current service page. Work and income evidence are required. DNM can ask for additional documents, so confirm your file rather than treating the absence of a printed floor as automatic approval.

Can I extend a nomad stay after leaving Argentina most of the time?

DNM 758/2022 Article 3 requires at least 50% of the original authorized term spent inside Argentina before the one equal-term extension. Keep your travel records and check the complete renewal requirements.

Can a nomad permit cover Argentine clients?

The category specifies people or entities domiciled overseas. A local client or employer requires a separate activity and immigration assessment. The guide does not treat it as authorized by the nomad rule.

Does nomad status create an automatic Argentine tax exemption?

No automatic exemption is established here. Current income tax Articles 1 and 116 address residence, worldwide income and qualifications. A professional must assess the transitory category, income source, habitual stay, treaty and home-country position.

Are the internet speeds measured Buenos Aires averages?

No. The chart shows Personal's advertised 300 and 600 Mbps plan ceilings. Coverage and the actual upload and latency inside your home need testing. An independent city median was not collected.

How do I apply for the nomad category while in CABA?

The current DNM service page directs CABA applicants to its contact email and a presencial process. It expressly says the route does not use RaDEX. Follow that current page for contact and fees.

Will a tourist stamp cover my remote work plan?

DNM's tourist guidance says tourists cannot perform paid tasks. The nomad category exists for qualifying overseas remote work. Match the stated purpose and activity to the correct authorization.
