The short answer

Buenos Aires has six Subte lines plus buses and suburban trains. A registered Subte ride costs US$1.20 (ARS 1,817.00) for the first 20 monthly rides in October 2026. A city-jurisdiction bus starts at US$0.61 (ARS 920.48). Contactless bank cards work, but transfer discounts need the eligible SUBE method. Choose an apartment around the complete work or school route, then plan airport and late-night trips separately.

  • US$1.20 (ARS 1,817.00). The registered Subte fare for rides 1 to 20 in October 2026.
  • US$0.61 (ARS 920.48). A 0 to 3 km trip on regular city-jurisdiction buses from October 1.
  • 40 Subte rides cost US$41 (ARS 61,797). That calculation includes the monthly frequency tiers.
  • Six Subte lines. Choose the station and final walking route before signing an apartment lease.
  • Ezeiza is 32 km (20 miles) from the center. Airport transfers need the flight time, apartment address and baggage needs.

Start with the Buenos Aires neighborhood finder, then compare the commute from the apartment entrance. Include the station walk and final office walk. The rent guide helps make that test part of the viewing. A lower rent can lose its advantage when the trip is awkward.

Buenos Aires Subte lines and station map

The six lines are A, B, C, D, E and H. The Premetro is a separate light-rail connection in the southwest. The network tool shows the existing routes. Check the official service-status page before departure, because station works and disruptions can change the usable route.2

Subte fares and monthly frequency discounts

October 2026 registered Subte fares are US$1.20 (ARS 1,817.00) for rides 1 to 20, then lower tiers. The count follows the month and payment identity. Keep the same card and form of payment if you want the frequency discount. Special fares and benefits have separate eligibility rules.7,11

SUBE, contactless cards and transfer discounts

National SUBE guidance now allows contactless Visa and Mastercard bank cards, compatible NFC devices and eligible QR payment on supported bus services. The city also supports these payment options on the Subte. Foreign-issued cards of the accepted brands can work. Check the validator and the bank's own fees.10,11

RED SUBE allows up to five discounted combinations within two hours, with at least two minutes between combinations. The second qualifying trip gets 50% off and later qualifying trips 75%, subject to the discount cap. The current official page limits eligible combinations by transport jurisdiction and order. Do not assume every train-to-Subte pairing qualifies.12

Use the same registered physical SUBE, active SUBE Digital identity or eligible SUBE-app QR for the combination. National bank-card acceptance does not automatically add the same transfer benefit. Keep a payment backup for an arrival day. The money and costs guide uses the dated BCRA rate for comparison, not your bank's settlement rate.12

Buenos Aires buses and jurisdiction-specific fares

Regular city-jurisdiction bus fares start at US$0.61 (ARS 920.48) for 0 to 3 km from October 1, 2026. The next bands differ by distance. National and province-jurisdiction lines use separate tables, even when they pass through CABA. Identify the line and route before budgeting from this city table.8

Check the current resolution and validator before assuming the minimum registered SUBE fare applies to every payment method.9

Use the official city route planner to compare the actual bus route, stop and final walk. Check live schedules and disruptions. A line number alone does not establish the correct branch or destination. For families, test the school run with the child's entrance and arrival time included.3

Ezeiza and Aeroparque airport transfers

Ezeiza, airport code EZE, sits 32 km (20 miles) from the city center in the tourism office's reference. Aeroparque, code AEP, is the city airport on the northern waterfront. Check which code appears on each booking. A transfer between the airports needs a separate route and enough time for check-in.4

Canada advises arranging Ezeiza transfers from the official arrivals taxi stand. Obtain the full quote and check the vehicle details. This guide does not publish an unverified universal airport time or taxi fare. Road traffic, the neighborhood and baggage needs change the answer.5

  1. Check the airport code

Confirm EZE or AEP for both the arrival and any onward flight.

  2. Write the complete address

Give the driver or planner the apartment street number and correct entrance.

  3. Confirm luggage and child seats

Ask for the vehicle capacity and any child seat before booking.

  4. Check the last leg

A coach or bus stop may leave a walk or another transfer to the apartment.

Suburban trains and the neighborhood choice

The suburban railway and the Subte solve different routes. Caballito has the Sarmiento railway toward Once. Belgrano C serves the Mitre Tigre branch, while Colegiales and Belgrano R belong to other Mitre branches. Federico Lacroze is the Urquiza terminal. Check the precise branch and current timetable before using a railway name to choose an apartment.3,16,18

Railway works can change service and terminal access. Check Trenes Argentinos' current modifications page for its operated lines, and the Urquiza operator for that line. The weekend-trip guide places train and ferry routes in their destination context. A suburban railway does not establish a direct airport connection.17,18

Subte hours and the late-night return

The regular official timetable starts the Subte at 5:30 a.m. on weekdays, 6 a.m. on Saturdays and 8 a.m. on Sundays and holidays. Last departures vary by line, terminal and day. Weekend or event extensions can change the pattern. Check the live official timetable before relying on the last train.13

These are terminal departures in the regular published table, not the arrival time at your station. Extensions and station works require a live check.

For a late restaurant or event, plan a confirmed bus or taxi backup before leaving. A nightlife-friendly neighborhood does not establish a late Subte trip home. Check the return route as carefully as the outward route, especially after a station closure or service change.

Taxis, app rides and driving checks

Buenos Aires taxis use the black-and-yellow city scheme. The city's BA Taxi guidance requires drivers to offer card and cash payment, with the meter setting the trip charge. Toll and baggage rules can add costs. Check the quote or meter terms before the ride, and confirm the driver and vehicle details.5,15

This guide does not quote a universal app fare. Request a live price for the actual route and time. Before relying on a car, check license recognition, insurance, parking and child-seat requirements for your situation. The moving checklist keeps those arrangements alongside the apartment and arrival plan.

Ecobici, cycling and walking

The city's published Ecobici basic rule gives Argentina residents up to four 30-minute rides on weekdays. Foreign visitors have separate paid tourist passes. Longer rides and weekend use have separate options. Register through the official system and read the current pass terms before assuming a bike ride is free.14

For walking, compare the apartment entrance, station entrance and grocery route. Recoleta and central areas can support short errands, while larger barrios create more variation. A map marker cannot confirm a step-free sidewalk or crossing. Test the route with the footwear, stroller or mobility aid you actually use.3

Subte

Colectivo
A city or regional bus, with its line and branch determining the route.
SUBE
The public-transport payment system. Card registration and payment identity affect some benefits.
Ramal
A railway or bus branch. The branch matters as well as the line name.
Remis
A booked car service with a quoted trip, commonly used for transfers.

Questions people ask

What is the registered Buenos Aires Subte fare in October 2026?

US$1.20 (ARS 1,817.00) for monthly rides 1 to 20. Later tiers fall to US$0.96 (ARS 1,453.60), US$0.84 (ARS 1,271.90) and US$0.72 (ARS 1,090.20). Use the eligible same payment identity for the frequency count.

How much do 40 Buenos Aires Subte rides cost in one month?

US$41 (ARS 61,797) using the registered October 2026 tiers. The calculation is 20 first-tier rides, 10 second-tier rides and 10 third-tier rides. It excludes extra transfer discounts and bank promotions.

How much do 80 Buenos Aires Subte rides cost in one month?

US$70 (ARS 105,405) using the registered October tiers. The first 40 rides cost US$41 (ARS 61,797), followed by 40 at US$0.72 (ARS 1,090.20). The combined dollar figure uses the guide's dated BCRA rate.

Can a foreign contactless bank card pay for the Buenos Aires Subte?

The city supports foreign-issued contactless Visa and Mastercard cards of the accepted brands, plus compatible NFC devices. Use a supported gate and check your bank's charges. Special SUBE benefits and transfer discounts have separate rules.

Does paying Buenos Aires transport with a bank card give RED SUBE discounts?

Payment acceptance alone does not establish that benefit. The current RED SUBE guidance lists eligible registered SUBE, SUBE Digital and SUBE-app QR identities. It also restricts combinations by jurisdiction and order.

What is the minimum CABA-only bus fare in October 2026?

US$0.61 (ARS 920.48) for a regular city-jurisdiction bus trip of 0 to 3 km. Longer bands and express services differ. National or province-jurisdiction lines passing through CABA use their own tables.

Does contactless payment use the same CABA bus distance fare?

The October city pilot uses the 3 to 6 km regular fare, US$0.67 (ARS 1,022.81), for bank-card or NFC payment regardless of distance. The mini MUBE rule differs. Check the actual line and current validator guidance.

How many Subte lines does Buenos Aires have?

Six, named A, B, C, D, E and H. The Premetro is a separate southwest light-rail connection. Check the live network status because works can close a station without changing the line shown on a map.

Which Subte line helps a Caballito apartment commute?

Line A follows Rivadavia and runs to Plaza de Mayo. Acoyte and Primera Junta are useful station anchors. Caballito also has the Sarmiento railway, so compare the final walk at the office.

Which Subte line helps a Palermo or Belgrano apartment commute?

Line D follows the Santa Fe and Cabildo corridors and runs to Catedral. The walk varies within both barrios. Compare the building entrance with the useful station, rather than assuming the neighborhood name gives direct access.

What time does the Buenos Aires Subte open?

The regular official table starts service at 5:30 a.m. on weekdays, 6 a.m. on Saturdays and 8 a.m. on Sundays and holidays. Last departures vary by line and terminal. Check current extensions and works.

Can I assume the Buenos Aires Subte runs after midnight?

No. The regular terminal timetable varies, and some weekend or event extensions apply. Check the specific line and day before leaving for a late event. Arrange a confirmed bus or taxi backup.

How far is Ezeiza from central Buenos Aires?

The city tourism office gives 32 km (20 miles). That is a city-center reference rather than a door-to-door apartment route. Confirm EZE on the flight and obtain a transfer route for the actual address and baggage needs.

Are Ezeiza and Aeroparque the same Buenos Aires airport?

No. Ezeiza is EZE outside the city, while Aeroparque is AEP on the northern city waterfront. An airport change needs a separate transfer, enough traffic allowance and the onward flight's check-in deadline.

Can foreign visitors use Ecobici for free on weekdays?

The published basic free option is for Argentina residents, with up to four 30-minute weekday rides. Foreign visitors have paid tourist passes. Check the current registration and pass terms before using the service.

Does a Subte map prove a route is accessible today?

No. Check the station entrances, current elevator status and service disruptions for both directions. The map shows route topology. It does not verify a working elevator or a step-free walk from the apartment.
