The short answer

A Buenos Aires move has several separate decisions. Immigration permission comes first. Housing, medical coverage, school places and everyday payments follow their own checks. Prepare documents while you can still obtain originals easily. Keep the first address flexible enough to test the daily routine. This checklist helps you sequence the work without promising that one application or booking completes the whole move.

  • Verify your immigration category before booking around it.
  • Keep original documents and offline copies.
  • Arrange medical continuity before departure.
  • Confirm the school place and route before a long lease.

What should happen before you commit?

Pros4

  • Document accessObtain records while you can still reach the issuing authority.
  • Medical continuityArrange a clinician and supply before the first refill.
  • School-led housingA confirmed campus makes the housing search specific.
  • A tested first addressA short initial stay gives time to inspect actual routes.

Cons4

  • Separate applicationsOne family member's approval does not complete every document.
  • Unquoted household costsSchool, insurance and childcare can change the budget.
  • Premature shippingCustoms status and charges need checking before a container.
  • Fixed bookingsNonrefundable travel can conflict with an unresolved application.

Read the Buenos Aires overview for the city fit. The Argentina visa guide handles the legal category. A practical checklist cannot establish your eligibility.

Ask the receiving authority which document needs an apostille or consular legalization and which translation it accepts. A translated scan does not automatically replace an original. Complete this review before ordering every record in bulk.

  • Keep originals accessibleDo not place them in a shipment.
  • Store an offline copyKeep it available without mobile data.
  • Separate backupsAvoid storing every identity and payment item in one bag.
  • Record the expirationNote the actual validity period for each required certificate.

The family guide and international school guide identify school and pediatric records. Keep those documents in the same household index.

For international travel with a child, check the Migraciones relationship and authorization requirements. The journey, residence category and accompanying adults determine the documents. Prepare any required authorization before buying a fixed itinerary.15

Confirm permission, work and reentry separately

Choose a category that matches nationality, purpose and work. Do not infer work authorization from a tourist entry or from a coworking membership. Keep the authority's receipt and instructions for the actual application.6

DNU 366/2025 replaced Migration Law article 34 with a purpose and health-insurance declaration rule. Article 123 bis states that the declaration becomes enforceable once its implementation is regulated. Confirm the current entry process with Migraciones and the carrier.6

Use the remote work page for a work-based move. Use the retirement page for retirement planning. The tax page explains why entry status and tax residence need separate review.

  1. Keep the status record

Save the issued permission and the authority's application receipt.

  2. Record the conditions

Note expiration, renewal and work conditions from your category.

  3. Check travel before departure

Review reentry documents before an international weekend.

  4. Use the current authority route

Confirm an appointment or application channel rather than copying an old blog.

Protect medical continuity before departure

  1. Request a medical summary

Include diagnosis, allergies, active ingredients and the treating clinician.

  2. Confirm the next clinician

Ask about language, specialty and appointment arrangements.

  3. Read the coverage

Check residence conditions, excluded treatment and payment procedure.

  4. Prepare the first refill

Confirm the local prescriber and expected supply.

  5. Save emergencies

Store 107, the home address and insurer contact offline.

The healthcare guide explains the difference between city and national hospitals. CABA's rules name temporary and permanent foreign residents. Nationally operated hospitals use a different nonpermanent-resident procedure.2,7

Bring the vaccination record for each family member. The Ministry of Health says National Vaccination Calendar vaccines are free at public sites and do not require a medical order. A clinician should compare the actual record.14

Confirm school admission before the long lease

For 2027 public-school enrollment in CABA, pre-enrollment runs through November 6, 2026. Document verification continues through November 17. Complete both stages and retain the receipt.12

International admission needs its own check. Lincoln, Northlands Olivos and St. Andrew's serve metropolitan campuses. Jean-Mermoz is inside CABA. As of October 9, St. Andrew's lists its February 2027 admissions process as closed.1,4,5,8

  1. Confirm the curriculum

Identify the exact campus, grade and qualification.

  2. Get written admission status

An inquiry or application is not a confirmed place.

  3. Obtain the complete price

Include entry charges, tuition, transport and departure terms.

  4. Test the commute

Travel the route during the actual school hour.

  5. Choose housing afterward

Compare buildings that fit the confirmed route.

Use international schools for verified programs and admission details. Compare Belgrano or Colegiales only after identifying the campus.

Traveling with a dog or cat

SENASA requires an international veterinary certificate from the origin authority. It also accepts a qualifying official pet passport. Confirm the language and endorsement requirements for the document you will use.10

SENASA timing to check before travel
ItemPublished timingMeaning
Health certificateWithin 10 days before the international certificateOrigin authority uses it to certify health
Parasite treatmentWithin 15 days before certification or passport endorsementBoth internal and external treatment
First rabies vaccinationAt least 21 days before entrySpecial requirements apply to pets under three months
International certificateValid for 60 days from issueRabies vaccination must remain valid
Check the complete current instructions with the origin authority and airline. These windows are not interchangeable.

SENASA distinguishes an accompanied pet from unaccompanied cargo. Cargo needs advance coordination and can incur charges. Airline acceptance, carrier size and booking are separate from the veterinary documents.10

Inspect the first address and longer lease

Use the first address to test the daily routine. Walk to groceries, transport and the destination that sets your schedule. Check the building entrance after dark. Test the apartment internet during a real call.

Use rent in Buenos Aires for contract questions and neighborhoods for the search. The safety page gives route and belongings precautions.

The first week after arrival

  1. Save the address

Keep the full address, entrance information and host contact offline.

  2. Arrange a phone connection

Confirm activation for the identity document you hold.

  3. Set up the transport routine

Check the current fare and payment method for your normal journey.

  4. Secure payments

Keep a backup card separately and confirm the actual exchange rate.

  5. Test work

Run a call and upload from the actual desk.

  6. Complete the next medical step

Confirm the treating clinician and next refill.

  7. Finish school follow-up

    Complete any remaining enrollment documentation.

Personal's prepaid instructions direct foreign-document holders to a branch. Do not assume an online identity process accepts a passport. The coworking guide covers the current home-internet offers and public WiFi limitations.9

The getting around guide handles local travel. The money guide handles banking and payment distinctions. Argentina uses UTC minus three without seasonal clock changes. Confirm the corresponding meeting time in your client's country.13

Price shipping and customs before sending goods

General Resolution 3109/2011 provides a household-goods framework for qualifying permanent foreign residents. Do not infer an identical benefit for tourist or temporary status. Confirm your current customs category and conditions with ARCA before shipping.3

Questions for a written shipping quote
QuestionWhy it matters
Who clears the goods?A door-to-door promise must name the customs responsibility
Which status and documents qualify?Your immigration category affects the process
Which charges are excluded?Port, storage, tax or inspection can change the total
What happens if delivery is delayed? You need an address and a storage plan
Which goods are restricted?A household inventory can contain regulated items
What does insurance cover?Packing damage and transit loss need explicit wording

Compare the total with purchasing locally and moving fewer possessions. Keep passports, application documents, medicines and the first working equipment with you. A container arrival date is not a dependable substitute for those essentials.

Questions people ask

What should I decide first for a Buenos Aires move?

Confirm the immigration category for your nationality, purpose and work. Then sequence healthcare, school and housing decisions around the actual permission and requirements.

Should I carry document originals or place them in a shipment?

Carry the originals you need for identity, applications, relationships and school. Keep separate offline copies. A delayed shipment should not interrupt the document process.

Does the 2025 health-insurance declaration rule prove a form applies to every border today?

No. DNU 366/2025 changed article 34, but article 123 bis makes the declaration enforceable after implementation is regulated. Check current Migraciones and carrier instructions for the actual route.

What should I confirm before a prescription refill abroad?

Confirm the local clinician, active ingredient, supply and valid prescription process before travel. Bring the dose and medical summary. Do not rely on a foreign brand name alone.

Why should a school place come before a long lease?

The campus determines the daily route. Several international options are outside CABA. Confirm the place and commute before making the housing commitment.

Which public-school enrollment dates apply to the 2027 CABA intake?

Pre-enrollment closes November 6, 2026. Document verification continues through November 17. Complete both steps and retain the receipt.

What documents do dogs and cats need for Argentina?

SENASA requires a qualifying international veterinary certificate or accepted official pet passport. Check rabies, health, parasite treatment, language and endorsement for the actual origin and journey.

How far ahead does a first rabies vaccination need to happen?

SENASA states at least 21 days before entry. Different requirements apply to pets under three months. Confirm your pet record with the certifying origin authority.

Is pet paperwork enough to guarantee airline carriage?

No. The airline has separate acceptance, carrier and booking conditions. Confirm those before buying a nonrefundable ticket.

Can every newcomer import household goods under the permanent-resident framework?

Do not assume that. General Resolution 3109/2011 addresses qualifying permanent foreign residents. Confirm current customs eligibility and charges for your actual category before shipping.

What should I test during the first housing stay?

Test groceries, school or work travel, building access and a real internet call. Inspect the return route after dark. Read the complete proposed lease before a longer commitment.

What proves the move is complete after arrival?

Check each area separately. Issued permission, a school place, usable medical coverage and tested housing are distinct outcomes. An application receipt or short booking does not establish all of them.

What should a child traveling with one parent carry?

Migraciones publishes proof-of-relationship and authorization requirements. Check the exact nationality, residence status and journey. Prepare the accepted authorization before an international outing.

Does the first-month budget include every household choice?

The baseline excludes school, private insurance, restaurants, taxes and setup costs. Add the household-specific quotes and actual spending before judging affordability.
