MAPA requires the current dog and cat CVI model introduced for entry from September 6, 2025. The incorporated MERCOSUR rules define certificate validity, first-rabies timing, parasite treatment and clinical examination. These periods run from different events. Confirm the issuing authority and carrier before choosing a flight. Other companion species need a separate import route.

Start with the current certificate
MAPA's current entry page requires the revised dog and cat CVI model from September 6, 2025. Ordinance 741/2024 replaces the older 2013 instruction.1,
MERCOSUR Resolution 20/24, incorporated by MAPA Ordinance 741/2024, Article 6, allows 60 calendar days from CVI issuance while rabies certification remains valid.2
Ask the exporting country's official veterinary authority to confirm the applicable certificate. Keep the animal identification and vaccination records beside it. This guide has not completed an individual entry inspection.
Check the first-rabies departure interval
Article 10 requires 21 days after first rabies vaccination before departure. An expired vaccination counts as a first vaccination.2
Confirm whether the recorded vaccination was first, continuous or expired before choosing the departure date. The certificate validity period does not remove the first-vaccination waiting period.
Count treatment and examination dates from issuance
Articles 13 to 14 require broad-spectrum parasite treatment within 15 days before CVI issuance and a clinical examination within 10 days before issuance.2

Confirm transport separately
Article 4 makes owners responsible for transport-container and carrier rules. A valid veterinary certificate does not settle airline acceptance.2
Ask the carrier about container dimensions, animal size, route, cabin or hold acceptance and weather restrictions. Obtain the actual transport quote. No carrier fee or availability was verified.
Use the correct route for another species
MAPA requires import authorization for companion species other than dogs and cats through the agriculture office in the final destination state. Dog and cat rules cannot be copied to every species.1
Confirm any future return requirements with the destination country's authority. The Brazilian entry certificate does not establish every country's return permission.
