The short answer
Cabo Frio's regional pattern gives you a useful starting point for heat, ventilation and rain planning. It does not tell you whether a particular street floods or the sea is safe today. Inspect the actual home after rain if possible, ask about drainage and damp, and use current alerts and coastal guidance for the day's decisions.
- The chart uses regional modeled data, not a local station.
- Each year contributes equally to its calendar-month average.
- September 2026's rain event is a separate dated report.
- The chart does not classify a home or forecast the sea.

Cabo Frio by month
MERRA2 model grid, not a station, 1991 to 2020 normals.
Average highs range from 74°F to 81°F. Rainfall peaks at 211 mm a month. NASA POWER, 1991 to 2020 daily MERRA2 regional estimates around Cabo Frio (opens in a new tab)
These 1991 to 2020 values come from NASA POWER's daily MERRA2 regional model around the requested Cabo Frio point. They are not a local station or an issued INMET normal. The native meteorological grid is 0.5 degrees latitude by 0.625 degrees longitude, with local solar time used for this request. The returned point is not a separate Tamoios measurement.1,
For each month, we average the daily high and low within each year, then give all 30 years equal weight. Rain is each year's monthly sum, averaged across the 30 years. All 10,958 dates are present for each of the three parameters. Values round only at the final one decimal.1,
Inspect the home against the ordinary weather
The modeled monthly daily-high average reaches 27.0°C in February and 23.1°C in August. The modeled daily-low average ranges from 20.4°C in August to 24.8°C in March. Use that pattern to inspect airflow, shade, cooling noise and the working or sleeping rooms, rather than assuming the sea breeze solves the indoor conditions.1
Modeled rain totals are highest in December at 211.0 mm and lowest in July at 46.4 mm. Ask about roof leaks, drains, damp, water storage and the entrance after heavy rain. A regional monthly average cannot establish conditions on your street or in one building.1,
Keep the dated rain report separate
The municipality's October 2, 2026 report records 267 mm in the first district and 297.7 mm in Tamoios during September 2026. It describes local disruption. Those event figures use a different time and observation basis from the model's 30-year monthly calculation; do not treat them as a matched station comparison or a property forecast.6
Civil Defense publishes 199 and +55 22 2647 0199. Follow current alerts and actual road conditions. The old report's short-term forecast is not today's forecast.6
Read the coast on the day
The tourism manual warns about more agitated water at Peró and cold, deep water with stronger waves at Foguete. It describes tide-dependent access around Ilha do Japonês. None of those descriptions establishes safe swimming or wading on a particular day. Ask lifeguards and qualified operators about current conditions.7
Use safety for emergency contacts and weekends for local outings. Keep the actual home and repeated journey as the decision, rather than trying to read them from a climate chart.6,
Questions people ask
Is the chart a local weather-station record?
No. It uses NASA POWER MERRA2 regional modeled daily data around the requested Cabo Frio point.
How are the monthly values calculated?
Each year's monthly daily-high and daily-low means receive equal weight. Monthly rain totals are averaged across the 30 years.
Can it tell me whether a home floods?
No. Inspect the property and entrance, ask about drainage and past events, and check current alerts.
Can the chart settle swimming or boat conditions?
No. Use the day's sea and tide conditions, lifeguard advice and a qualified operator.
