Angra dos Reis relocation guide

Healthcare in Angra dos Reis

Plan routine care and island transfers separately.

The short answer

Healthcare is part of the mainland or island choice. Angra has registered care contacts in Japuíba, Jacuecanga and Abraão, but a directory entry cannot tell you which clinician is available today. If you need ongoing treatment, contact the service and insurer before committing to a home, especially on Ilha Grande.

  • Keep the mainland hospital contact separate from island care.
  • Confirm the service and appointment before making the journey.
  • Ask explicitly about referrals and maritime transfers.

Check the care you need and the cover you hold

Brazil's Ministry of Health says migrant primary-care access should not be refused for missing identification, CPF, SUS card or proof of residence. This is national primary-care guidance. It does not promise an immediate specialist appointment or English-speaking clinician.7

For new or adapted private plans, ANS lists maximum waiting periods of 24 hours for urgent or emergency care, 180 days for other covered care and 300 days for term birth, with exceptions. Check your exact contract, local network and maritime transfer cover.5,6

Use the address choices and the boat timetable to test scheduled visits. Families and retirees may need a more detailed care plan. Keep the emergency numbers available offline.

Questions people ask

Where is the mainland hospital listed here?

CNES lists Hospital Municipal da Japuíba HMJ at Rua Japoranga 1700 in Japuíba. Its published phone is +55 24 3368-6556. Confirm the service you need directly.

Does Abraão have registered care?

Yes. CNES lists both a pronto atendimento and a family-health service on Rua Getúlio Vargas, s/n. Both publish +55 24 3361-5523. Their registration does not establish every specialty or current staffing.

Can missing a CPF block migrant primary-care access?

The Ministry of Health's national guidance says missing CPF, identification, SUS card or proof of residence should not be grounds for refusing migrant primary care. Specialist arrangements and private coverage are separate.

Does private insurance automatically include an island transfer?

Do not assume that. Ask the insurer about the actual Angra network, referral rules and maritime transfer cover. A registered facility and a scheduled passenger ferry do not establish an emergency medical transfer service.
