The short answer

Banco de Corrientes publishes an ordinary savings-account checklist and a separate simplified peso account using DNI. For the ordinary route, it lists identity, tax, income and address documents. The guide has not confirmed approval with only a foreign passport or overseas income. Contact the bank before planning rent and bill payments around an account you have not opened.

  • Choose the right checklist. Ordinary and simplified peso accounts have different document requirements.
  • Ask about your exact identity documents. The simplified offer lists DNI. Passport-only approval was not verified.
  • Check income and address evidence. The ordinary checklist includes these documents and tax identification.
  • An advertised account is not approval. Confirm acceptance, access and payment limits with the bank.

Confirm documents before choosing the payment plan

Start with the amounts and payment methods the landlord requires. The rent guide and rental paperwork checklist explain the questions to settle before paying.

A free peso account can still have separate card, transfer or other service conditions. Ask for the terms you will actually use instead of treating a headline fee as the full banking cost.

Do not combine the short simplified checklist with the ordinary account route. Ask the bank to identify the exact account and document list for you. Explain whether you have DNI, a residence certificate, a passport and overseas income.3

The operator's AFIP label may not tell you which current tax document to obtain. Ask the bank before paying for certificates or translations. A checklist is not a decision on your application.

National migrant guidance

National guidance describes no-cost peso savings accounts for migrants with a residency certificate and qualifying identity documents. It gives a route to investigate, but you still need the bank's acceptance and processing.1

Use Argentina's banking guide alongside the current local checklist. Confirm the documents for your nationality and status. Do not assume a tourist passport alone meets a route described for migrants with residence evidence.

Check residence requirements separately. A bank account does not grant immigration permission, and immigration approval does not itself open an account.

Rent, utilities and overseas money

  1. Confirm the payment instructions

Get the payee, currency, account and due date from the agency or operator through its verified contact.

  2. Check your account access

Ask about transfer limits, authentication, cards and any waiting period before relying on a large payment.

  3. Price the transfer

Ask the provider about the actual exchange, fees and amount received. A reference quotation is not your transaction quote.

  4. Keep receipts

Save the agreement and payment record, especially for deposits and advance payments.

Dollar displays in this guide use the BCRA October 9, 2026 quotation of ARS 1,517 per US$1. They do not predict the exchange rate, fees or cash amount a bank or transfer provider will give you.2

DPEC's setup checklist has its own identity, occupancy and guarantee requirements. Read the utilities guide and add confirmed setup costs to arrival planning. Bank approval does not replace those requirements.

Keep income and tax questions separate

If you receive a pension, ask how the bank documents and receives it. The retirement guide distinguishes the pensionado threshold from a household budget.

For remote or local work, ask about proof of income and any required registration. Use remote-work planning or the local job checklist for those different activities.

Get tax advice for your status and source of income. Opening a peso account does not decide tax residence or remove obligations elsewhere.

Questions people ask

Can a foreigner open a bank account in Corrientes?

There are local and national account routes to investigate, but approval depends on documents and the bank. Ask Banco de Corrientes about your identity, residence, income and address evidence before relying on an account.

Can I open an account with only my passport?

Passport-only approval was not verified. The simplified operator offer lists DNI, while national migrant guidance describes qualifying identity and residency documents. Ask which route fits your circumstances.

What does the ordinary Banco de Corrientes checklist include?

It lists identity, CUIT/CUIL/CDI, income or tax registration and address documents, plus an INDEC certificate. Ask about the exact current documents, especially the certificate and any foreign records.

Is the simplified account the same as the ordinary account?

No. The operator publishes separate routes. Do not apply the DNI-only simplified description to the ordinary account. Ask the bank to identify the account and conditions it offers you.

Are peso savings accounts free?

The cited operator page advertises no opening or maintenance charge for the peso savings account. Confirm the chosen account and fees for any other services, cards or transfers.

Will overseas income be accepted as proof?

That acceptance was not confirmed for this guide. Explain the type of income and ask which statements, certificates or translations the bank requires before preparing documents.

Does a residence permit guarantee a bank account?

No. Residence permission and bank approval are different decisions. The bank still checks the application and documents for its account route.

Can I use the guide's dollar conversion as my transfer quote?

No. The displays use a dated BCRA reference quotation. Ask the actual transfer or banking provider for the rate, fees and amount received before sending money.

What should I check before paying a rental deposit?

Confirm the property, agency contact, written terms, payee and payment instructions. Check that your account or provider can make the payment and keep receipts. Do not rely on an account that remains unapproved.

Which tax rules should I check before moving money?

Tax residence and income-source rules need a separate review. Ask an adviser about your work, pension, status and any obligations in another country.
