La Plata has two distinct rail choices. The Roca branch runs to Plaza Constitución in Buenos Aires, while the University Train links La Plata station with faculty stops and Hospital San Juan de Dios. Registered SUBE fares effective September 1, 2026 are US$0.52 (ARS 790) for the full Roca journey and US$0.24 (ARS 360) on the University Train.

Read the date and operating day
The linked La Plata to Plaza Constitución timetable is effective August 3, 2026 and separates weekdays, Saturdays, and Sundays or holidays. The current branch notice says October 12 uses the holiday timetable. Recheck notices before traveling.4,
The University Train PDF combines a schedule effective July 15, 2024 with a fare effective September 1, 2026. It lists weekday and Saturday trips through Arquitectura, Informática, Medicina, Periodismo, Diagonal 73, Policlínico, Avenida 7, Circunvalación and Meridiano V to Hospital San Juan de Dios. No Sunday timetable is provided there.8
Do not plan a University Train journey for October 12, 2026. The operator announces no service that day. Check future holiday and operating notices separately.7
Local buses and visitor driving documents
The provincial fare system treats Gran La Plata, covering La Plata, Berisso and Ensenada, separately from other Buenos Aires tariff areas. The current October local fare was not confirmed here. Ask for your route, distance section, passenger category and operating day.3
Argentina's foreign visitor guidance distinguishes conventions. A qualifying Washington Convention document runs for one year from issuance. Qualifying Geneva or Vienna documents have a maximum of one year from entry. This is visitor guidance. The linked PDF provides weekday and Saturday schedules, with no Sunday table. Ask the operator about your date and check current notices.
Can I pay cash on the University Train?
The posted tariff requires SUBE. The Roca cash tariff belongs to that separate service and does not make cash available on the University Train.
How much will my local bus cost?
The current Gran La Plata fare remains unconfirmed. Check the actual route and category before using it in a monthly travel budget.
Can I keep driving on my foreign license after moving?
The cited national guidance concerns visitors and qualifying convention documents. A resident must check the separate provincial or local licensing requirements. Do not assume a visitor clock authorizes indefinite resident driving.
