Angra dos Reis relocation guide
Retiring in Angra dos Reis
Choose the care routine before the retirement setting.
The short answer
Angra can offer a very different retirement routine on the mainland and on Ilha Grande. Start with the care and journeys you need to repeat, then inspect the home's actual access. Brazil's retirement residence rule is another decision. Meeting its income requirement does not establish an affordable household or suitable local care.
- Check treatment, referrals and transport before choosing an island home.
- Inspect the complete street-to-home route.
- Treat residence income criteria separately from household spending.
Build the care and access plan first
HMJ is registered at Rua Japoranga 1700 in Japuíba. Abraão has registered pronto atendimento and family-health services, but those entries do not establish every specialty or a maritime medical transfer service. Ask about the care you need and how mainland referrals would work.2,
Inspect the actual entrance, stairs, bathroom and route to transport. A first-floor Centro description does not establish an elevator. Porto Bali lists one, but its full street-to-apartment route still needs checking. Also ask how you would leave during an elevator outage.1,
Keep the national residence rule in its own place
CNIg Normative Resolution 40/2019 sets a retirement or pension residence route with a minimum monthly transfer of US$2,000. Regular other income may supplement the pension amount. The consular route requires health insurance valid in Brazil. Initial residence may be granted for up to two years, with renewal subject to its own requirements.7
Confirm the applicable route and documents with the responsible authority. Then price your actual home, cover and travel. The national income criterion is not a recommended Angra living-cost figure.7
Use the care contacts, housing examples and transport for that assessment. The budget guide and document sequence complete the plan.
Questions people ask
What income does the retirement residence rule require?
CNIg Normative Resolution 40/2019 sets a minimum monthly transfer of US$2,000. Regular other income may supplement the pension amount. Confirm the route, supporting documents and current application requirements with the authority.
Is US$2,000 the guide's recommended monthly budget?
No. It is a national residence criterion. Your actual Angra budget depends on the lease, care coverage, utilities and travel you choose.
Does Abraão's registered care replace mainland planning?
No. The registered pronto atendimento and family-health services are useful contacts. They do not establish all specialties or an emergency maritime transfer service.
Does a first-floor home guarantee easier access?
No. The Centro offer gives a floor description without establishing an elevator or continuous step-free route. Inspect the actual entrance and the route to the services you will use.
