Villa Traful relocation guide

Weekends and outings from Villa Traful

Start with an outing that fits the group and today's conditions. Keep a lake booking, the road journey and a two-day traverse as separate plans.

The short answer

A free day in Villa Traful can begin at the lake, with a boat inquiry or a more demanding forest route. Choose the actual outing before arranging transport and paying a deposit. Weather affects boat departures, while the Angostura traverse involves two walking days and fords. Leave time to change the plan rather than making every weekend depend on one booking.

  • Traful Extremo's departures depend on weather and available space.
  • Road transfers from other towns are separate.
  • The Angostura to Traful traverse is a two-day route.
  • Check current ranger advice, registration and park rules.

Our take

Confirm the actual boat departure

Traful Extremo says its excursions leave from the Traful dock, with office registration before boarding. Space is limited and departures depend on weather. Its FAQ recommends confirming 24 to 48 hours beforehand, then arranging the deposit. Ask about your date, check-in, route and total price.1

Tell the operator about children, pregnancy, spinal conditions or mobility needs before booking. It says weather cancellations can be rebooked or refunded if rebooking is not possible. Passenger cancellation normally does not receive the deposit back, with exceptions considered individually. Read the terms for your booking.1

The operator does not provide transfers from Bariloche, Villa La Angostura or San Martín de los Andes. Arrange the road journey separately and check RP65 before traveling.1,4

Treat the Angostura route as an overnight commitment

The national park describes the Villa La Angostura to Villa Traful traverse as two days, with six to eight walking hours per day and an overnight at Tapera de Lagos or Las Orquetas. The standing route lists December through March, several fords and no services. Consult rangers about present access and the complete route before choosing it.2

The Traful end starts at Camping Arroyo Catarata; the Angostura end starts at the Cerro Bayo base. Carry the equipment and supplies for the actual itinerary, including footwear for the fords. Mandatory registration and the overnight arrangement belong in the plan before departure.2,3

Keep an easier alternative available

A shore visit or time around the settlement can suit a day when the boat or longer route does not. Ask locally about the actual access, facilities and weather. A tourism description of the lake is not current swimming advice or proof that every shore is accessible.3,5

Keep pets, camping and fire rules attached to the outing. A pet-friendly rented home does not permit a national park trail with the animal. Ask a ranger about the actual itinerary and current restrictions.3,6

Protect the return and the next day

  1. Check current advice

Read the forecast and consult the operator or rangers for the actual outing.

  2. Confirm the start

Know the dock, office or trailhead and how to reach it.

  3. Prepare the group

Bring suitable clothing, water, supplies and route equipment.

  4. Tell someone the plan

Give the itinerary and expected return; do not rely on cellphone coverage.

  5. Leave a workable return

Arrange the road journey or overnight before setting out.
