Alto Paraíso Days Out

Choose the circuit and return before buying the day out.

The short answer

The national park is a major reason to live here, but a visit still needs a plan. Its entrance is at São Jorge, and the marked routes differ in length, terrain and season. Decide whether you will walk the full circuit or use internal transport, then check the entry and return deadlines. Leave room to change the outing when weather, availability or your group's energy changes.

  • The two longer advertised circuits are approximately 11 km round trip.
  • Admission, internal transport and camping are separate charges.
  • Seriema's short distance does not establish year-round availability.

Alto Paraíso is among the named surrounding municipalities for the resident rate. A long accommodation booking does not automatically prove eligibility. Ask which residence document or registration the operator accepts. Children up to six with responsible adults are listed for free admission.5

Internal transport and camping are outside the admission price. Confirm availability and the outward and return arrangement before using the vehicle to shorten a walking day.3,5

Keep the route-specific deadlines

The 2025 protocol gives walking entry from 8 a.m. to noon, with Seriema entry until 4 p.m. when open. Daytime visitors must leave the São Jorge visitor area by 6 p.m. Internal transport has separate route deadlines and a final return at 5:30 p.m. The operator requires a round-trip purchase for transport entry after noon, subject to availability.5,6

Night visits require an authorized guide under the protocol. For daytime São Jorge routes, a guide is recommended rather than universally required. Domestic animals are prohibited.5,6,7

The entrance is on GO 239, km 36, Vila de São Jorge. Use transport planning, adapted vehicle checks, weather and river safety, pet care and family planning before setting out.3,5,8

Questions people ask

Can I arrive at noon and begin any walking circuit?

The protocol gives walking entry from 8 a.m. to noon, with a later deadline for Seriema when open. Confirm the selected route before arriving at a cutoff, especially if you need internal transport.

Does living in Alto Paraíso automatically give the resident price?

The operator requires qualifying residence proof or prior resident registration. Ask which document it accepts before relying on the US$1 (BRL 5) rate.

Is Seriema an available short walk in October?

The operator's route page says it is unavailable from June through October. Check directly before planning it. The general entry deadline does not establish seasonal opening.

Do I always need a guide?

For the daytime São Jorge routes, the protocol recommends a guide without making one universally compulsory. Night visits require an authorized guide. Check the rules for any other activity separately.
